Windows Users are at Risk for the New Ransomware Attack WannaCry

Peerless Tech Solutions
May 16, 2017

On May 12, 2017 Microsoft users were targeted for a new Ransomware attack called WannaCry. Users should take immediate action to patch and protect themselves.

WannaCry is demanding a ransom of $300 to $600 to be paid in Bitcoin by May 15th. If the deadline is missed, users will be forced to pay a higher amount by May 19th. Files will remain encrypted until the ransom amount is paid.

There is not yet an idea of any flaws within the encryption scheme that will allow for victims to restore their files without having to pay the ransom.

Protect yourself!

Users should be extremely cautious of any emails that are received. Be especially cautious of emails redirecting you to open web links or attached documents. Also, if you have not downloaded the Microsoft Fix- MS17-010, we recommend you do so immediately!
