Chinese hackers have breached Navy contractors several times over the past 18 months. Navy contractors are targeted because hackers seek sensitive, classified information about the military technology they are using.
In June, American officials announced that Chinese hackers compromised computers of a Navy contractor and stole highly sensitive data including secret plans to develop a supersonic anti-ship missile for use on U.S. submarines. The breaches are a part of China’s efforts to diminish the U.S. military advantage technology.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Secretary of the Navy Richard Spencer said in an internal memo that "Attacks on our networks are not new but attempts to steal critical information are increasing in both severity and sophistication."
